Solution:
The USMC was in search of a unique way to connect with young student-athletes to inform them about USMC career options. BRAINBOX created a unique and ownable property for the United States Marine Corps called the USMC Sports Leadership Academy. This property consists of a series of on-the-ground events that connect the Marines with athletes of different abilities and interests across six different team sports (basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, and wrestling).
These sports camps take place year-round in major cities across the country. Student-athletes seeking to rise to the next level in their sport are encouraged to register for this free program conducted by BBIM and an assembly of premier coaches and trainers within their chosen sport. At these camps, athletes observe Marines and their leadership traits, while learning valuable skills within the sport. This all-day interaction allows the Marines to gain age-qualified leads while imparting leadership qualities to these athletes. Members of the United States Marines lead the athletes through leadership training, physical training, and team building. Marine Recruiters speak to the athletes at these events throughout the day and provide information about opportunities for a career in the USMC.
2021 Results:
In 2021, we activated over 24 youth sports events across the country, which resulted in a lead generation total of over 3,000 leads provided to the marines. Our social media outreach resulted in a total reach of over 3,500,000 and over 7,700,000 impressions. In a survey sent out to participants after the event, 87% reported having a better interest in the U.S. Marines.

“It’s very exciting for us to be able to represent the USMC with BRAINBOX at an event that is this big and this nationally recognized. It’s a great opportunity for us to engage with people who are passionate about sports and winning – they are warriors and were warriors as well. We just love having the opportunity to interact with these students and hope to get some into the Marine Corps eventually.”

The participants who demonstrated the best leadership qualities during the event won trophies presented by the Marines. Before the events, we conducted a series of social media posts across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to promote the event leading up to the day.
